10 Footballers Who Didn't Live Up To The Hype This Season

Hyping up a player is always a  dangerous thing, because if that player didn’t live up to the hype, trust me, you are not ready for the backfire. Here are some players that failed to live up to their hype this season.

 Darwin  Nunez

Liverpool fans hyped up Darwin  Nunez and made it look like we will see a clash of titans between him and the Norwegian Viking that went on to break all the records this season.  The club paid a whopping 106M euros thinking that Nunez will be the missing piece and the more capable replacement of Bobby Firmino besides Luis  Diaz and Mo Salah in the attack. However that was not the case at all, Nunez didn’t deliver what was  expected from him at all

 Sadio Mane

Mane didn’t just fail to live up to the hype, in fact, his journey in Germany so far is all shaping up to make him look like one of the worst transfers of the year. Mane’s first season at Bayern, and probably the last, is nothing less than a huge disaster. He had a huge injury that sidelined him midseason and had a fight with Leroy Sane that ended with Sane’s lips swollen, it’s almost certain that the club will sell him next season.

  Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly was considered one of the best central defenders in the world, and when Tuchel managed to secure this signing earlier in the season, everyone thought that he’ll shape up to be Chelsea's new leader of the defense. However it was actually the complete opposite of that, Koulibaly is having a hard time securing a place in the starting lineup. And it probably stings much more for him as Napoli went on to win a historic Serie A title following his exit.

Richarlison

Richarlison scored only 3 goals in 33  games and also he didn’t manage to be a starter in a terrible Spurs side. Despite costing the club  70M euros. Richarlison is a big shout for the flop of the year among English Pundits. Some even labeled him as a joke. While that is a little bit harsh, the Brazilian is also not helping with his egoistic attitude. Indeed his stint at Everton was great and he also had a great world cup but at Spurs, he is looking as lost as it gets. He’s nowhere near the Richarlison that majorly helped Everton to maintain a spot in the premier league last season, maybe a new manager will help but we’ll only have to wait and see.

  Aurélien Tchouaméni

The French midfielder was bought for 100M euros from Monaco and was thought to be a direct replacement for the veteran Casemiro.

Tchouameni had some great games at the start of the season and every Madrid fan was okay with Casemiro’s departure after seeing some of the youngster’s performances. However, during the season Carlo Ancelotti shifted his focus on giving Rodrygo more playing time, and to do that he had to sideline one of Tchouameni, Modric,  Kroos, or Valverde. And of course, Tchouameni was his choice as he can’t sideline Modric or Kroos, and Valverde is needed to cover for the front three lack of defense. So in order for  Tchouameni to shine, a change is needed

  Gianluca Scamacca

The Italian striker signed for West Ham and was thought to be the ace that could change it all for West  Ham and transcend them from finishing 7th last season to being top 4 contenders. Scamacca was not that guy by any means, he flopped so badly that West Ham was fighting relegation at some point. Of  course, he can’t be held accountable for that but he just wasn’t what everybody thought he would be,  scoring only 3 goals and failing to secure a place in the first 11

 Jadon  Sancho

Sancho was every United fan's dream and you can’t blame them. The guy was unbelievable at Dortmund and seeing how good he was, fans thought that he was the one. However, after a very disappointing first season, the arrival of Erik Ten Hag was thought to be the key to unlocking Sancho’s potential. But this never happened despite Ten  Hag’s efforts with him and the work done by Sancho himself. Things are just not clicking. Maybe it’s time for United to start thinking about selling the English youngster before things become even worse.

Antony

The Brazilian had a mediocre season with the club, he never justified the big price tag of 95M  euros. The hype around this move was too big and Antony actually had some great performances at the beginning, but he never managed to be consistent and proved to be another squad player in the team, not one that could decide games as it was previously thought. You can say that he hasn't fully adapted yet and also the whole Man United team looks like they’re in a  temporary mode until Ten Hag is able to implement his true style. Maybe just then, we’ll see a different Antony.

 Mykhailo Mudryk

The hype around Mudryk’s transfer saga was unmatched this season, it was the talk of everybody in England. Some fans went a bit far and said that he resembles a young Cristiano Ronaldo in his style of play. The Ukrainian winger was on the verge of signing for Arsenal, but he chose to join Chelsea in a last-minute snub. Arsenal went on to sign Trossard and up and till now the joke seems to be on Chelsea as Trossard went on to shine at the Emirates but the 100M euros  Mudryk is not even a starter at Chelsea.
